    how to go plastic free

It has recently broken in the news that the amount of plastic we use and dump on our planet is having some serious effects on our climate. Especially with global warming still lingering it’s causing more trouble than it’s worth. These are 7 small ways on how to go plastic free easily. If you haven’t already read my blog post We Need To Save The Arctic And Icebergs then you should give that a read first as it’s filled with so many facts and ways we can help reduce global warming together.

I wanted to write up another blog post on how we can reduce the amount of plastic we use and waste to eventually go plastic free. There are so many helpful websites and tips out there that can help you along with the process. These tell you how you can replace your everyday plastic items with so I thought I would include them in this post as well.

HOW TO GO PLASTIC FREE // 7 EASY WAYS YOU CAN DO IT

    01. BRING YOUR OWN SHOPPING BAG

Supermarkets and shops didn’t introduce the 5p charge for plastic bags for nothing. It’s all to help us reduce the amount of plastic we use. But I still think the charge should be raised higher than 5p. Or even get rid of plastic bags altogether and replace them with either paper (like Primark used to) or bag for life style bags. I purchased my own bag for life shopping bag from IKEA which was really cheap. It folds into a little pouch so it’s perfect for fitting into my handbag/work bag. So I can take it with me if I ever need to go food shopping for lunches.

    02. REUSABLE WATER BOTTLES

There are so many cute and stylish reusable water bottles out there that you can use especially ones from Chilly’s or S’well which you can reuse over and over again without wasting unnecessary plastic. Plenty of shopping centres and stores have water taps which you can refill your bottles up with should you need more water.

    03. BRING YOUR OWN HOT DRINKS MUG

I know quite a few coffee shops especially Costa and Starbucks are introducing a scheme to bring your own hot drinks mug and some money from your drinks gets donated to a litter free charity to help save the planet. I still think it’s a good idea for you to bring your own drinks mugs into your chosen coffee shop.

    04. SAY NO TO DISPOSABLE STRAWS AND CUTLERY

You may receive plastic straws or cutlery with your takeaway orders. I would always say no to them just as they are so hard to recycle. Use your normal cutlery at home to save you throwing any away.

    05. SKIP THE PLASTIC PRODUCE BAGS THAT GET BINNED

You know those horrible sandwich bags that get chucked away after one use – yeah don’t purchase those ever again! They are one huge waste of space and especially if they get thrown away after one use it’s just silly. If you need to store any food, always opt for a glass container. Or something that is reusable and can be washed after every use to kill bacteria

    06. ONLY BUY FRUIT AND VEG THAT DOESN’T COME IN PLASTIC WRAPPING

Now there is a huge debate going on now about fruit and veg in supermarkets that come wrapped in the plastic wrapping. And whether they should be sold anymore. I strongly believe they shouldn’t be sold anymore. And have it so we can just pick up the fruit and veg at the greengrocers.

    07. GO VEGAN / VEGETARIAN

No I kid you not I’m not trying to push my beliefs down anyone’s throat. It’s proven that eating less/no meat that less plastic is being used. As well as saving thousands if not millions of animals lives. I have been vegetarian for a year now and have also included certain vegan products into my diet including soya milk which I absolutely love and it’s made me a whole lot better in my body and mind knowing I’m doing something productive for the animals and also our planet.
