• 13 Photos To Inspire You To Visit Madrid

I wanted to share with you some photos to inspire you to visit Madrid. If you haven’t been, I highly recommend visiting the Spanish capital especially if you have been to Barcelona and loved it. Barcelona and Madrid are very similar but each have their quirks as well.

If you have a chance to visit a small city outside Madrid, I recommend visiting Toledo which is a very diverse religious town which includes catholics and also Judaism as well and you can visit some beautiful synagogues. Toledo is a pre-roman settlement and is where metal works began so you are able to find lots of metal shops including cutlery, chandeliers and knives.

    From outside of Toledo‘s walls

Toledo is a perfect day trip if you want to get out of the city and explore somewhere else. The train journey to Toledo takes about 2 hours, but it pretty much flew by and you get to see some lovely bits of rural Madrid.

You are greated by the quaint platform and beautiful stain glass windows and deep carved wooden walls featured in the station house. The walk to outside the walls of Toledo is stunning especially if the weather is nice and the views of the city in the distance with Tagus river infront of you.

    Royal Palace of Madrid

We didn’t go inside the Royal Palace as it was so busy but sitting outside on the steps and taking in the sights and sounds is worth it. It’s such a gorgeous area and there are plenty of things to do. There are street performers playing music and people selling jewellery and souveniers.

Use this map when you are in Madrid so you can easily navigate your way around.

This selection of photos that I have chosen for this post, I hope really highlights how gorgeous Madrid is and why you should visit for culture and delicious food.

These photos were taken in the grounds of El Retiro Park. It’s a huge beautiful park filled with flowers, water fountains and a massive lake in the middle in which you can paddle boat around with cafes and places to chill around the outside.

The park once belonged to the Spanish Monarchy until the late 19th century, when it became a public park. El Retiro Park is famous for it’s large artificial lake in the centre which you can go out on pedal boats or the solar powered passenger boat, have a cold drink and tapas whilst people watching by the lake or hire electric scooters to get around the park on.

It covers over 125 hectares and has more than 15,000 trees, El Retiro Park is definitely a green oasis in the heart of the city.
