When Amy and I visited Antwerp, we had read about a museum near the river – Museum Aan De Stroom, that has great views of the city. After walking through the main shopping area of the city and the city centre, we came to a main road by the river and followed it along until we came to a small harbour. In the middle of the harbour was the museum we had been wanting to visit – Museum aan de Stroom (MAS).

The architecture of the museum is very unique and reminds me a lot of the Harpa Conference and Concert Hall in Iceland, with its curved glass window panels and almost like a Tetris block shape to the building and different levels. Inside the museum it hosts various exhibitions from art and sculpture pieces that are paid for entries. To reach the top level 10, it’s free to visit and is a rooftop view point which has amazing views of the entire city.
When we visited it was beautiful and sunny and very overcast so it wasn’t easy to see very far. To reach the top level, we took the escalators but there are also stairs and elevators available if you need them.
You can read more about their accessibility options here including guides for blind and people of hard of hearing. It also includes important Coronavirus precautions as well.

NAVIGATE YOUR WAY TO MUSEUM AAN DE STROOM…

After we visited the museum, we stopped for some lunch at Mon which is a lovely French/Dutch steakhouse that has a lovely outside seating area especially when the weather is as gorgeous as it was when we visited. We had lunch outside and ordered a nice cold drink and some salad. I ordered the Caesar salad without the meat. It was really refreshing and definitely hit the spot.
There are plenty of places to eat around MAS so you definitely aren’t short of places to try. There is a great burger restaurant – Ellis Gourmet Burger which you can see from the top of the MAS viewpoint which is definitely worth checking out. You should also check out Otomat Heavenly Pizza (which I visited the one in Ghent), Cafe Storm and The Shack who do great bagels.
