• Hits & Misses From The Met Gala 2024

I haven’t done a Met Gala round up post for quite a while so I thought I would write one up with my hits and misses from the Met Gala 2024. This years theme was “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” so I’m loving the idea of whimsical fairytale like inspiration being drawn into the dresses and fashion.

I have always been fascinated in what each celebrity creates with regards to the theme and what their own interpretation is. Some have hit the theme perfectly whilst others have seriously missed it.

    KARLIE KLOSS

    SWAROVSKI

YES KARLIE! This dress is gorgeous. The detailing around the neck and shoulders really makes this dress. It is the most gorgeous pale pink figure hugging floor length gown covered in over 180,000 rose crystals with a deeper pink detailing of 3D cherry blossom all over the dress with the most stunning crystal studded branch that wrapped around her neck and shoulders, almost creating a necklace illusion.

Her hair styled in a simple swept back bun with a middle parting. The make up was very fresh with a rose tinted lip and a thick brow to highlight Karlie’s stunning face and cheek bones.

She wore the most gorgeous Swarovski square cut rose earrings with smaller studs up her lobes and large rose gold rings with enormous cherry blossom flowers. Her nails were filed into a lovely almond shape painted in a pink nude shade.

    ZENDAYA

    MAISON MARGIELA ARTISANAL

Zendaya embraced the theme and made it edgy. The gorgeous peacock coloured dress features a duchess satin corset and bands of hand-painted metallic crin, a drape and bow layered from aluminium material and iridescent organza with hand painted and hand-embroidered motifs in electric blue and emerald green.

The stunning off the shoulder detail hangs off one shoulder whilst the other has a large bow style that drapes down towards her waist.

Her hair is styled into a tight bun with messy strands that accentuate her face with a hand painted plume-like veil and hat wrapped in stockings situated on her head to add height. Her make up is glowy with a deep burgundy eyeshadow that reaches her brow bone. Zendaya has had her brows styled very thinly almost replicated the style of the 1920s with a deep burgundy lip with a touch of shine on the cupids bow and lower lip. She is wearing simple green studs in her lobes to tie in the green featured in her dress. Her nails are also painted in a deep burgundy shade.

    GIGI HADID

    THOM BROWNE

Gigi seriously brought back the Old Hollywood vibe to the ‘red carpet’. The gorgeous ivory gown designed by Thom Browne featured an off the shoulder style with a massive detachable skirt with very dramatic ruffles. The dress seriously accentuated Gigi’s hourglass figure and at the centre of the waist an embroidered yellow rose with black petals took the spotlight. Other roses adored the skirt, which flowed onto the carpet. Gigi even carried a bouquet of real yellow roses.

She accessorised with pointy yellow pumps plus a diamond necklace with matching dangly earrings. To bring the Old Hollywood glamour, Gigi’s hair was styled into a side-parted short bob which curled around her cheeks. She finished the look off with a bold red lip, her gorgeous arched brows and an off-white manicure to tie in with the dress. Gigi’s dress took over 5000 hours to make.

    LANA DEL REY

    ALEXANDER MCQUEEN

Lana seriously gave me some whimsical forest vibes with her dress style. Lana’s gown was a corseted dress in silk, double georgette and tulle – all hand-embroidered with hammered bronze hawthorn branches that started from the bottom of the train all the way up to the custom headpiece that was finished off with a veil of sheer tulle.

She accessorised with a bronze metal Drop bag embellished with a clock detail and a rose in which she carried in her hand. Lana’s hair was styled in a mermaid wave that was draped down her back with her fringe pulled back away from her face. Her makeup was neutral and glowy with a nude glossy lip and thick full lashes. She didn’t wear any jewellery to avoid clashing with the hawthorn branches and her nails were painted in a pale pink shade. She also wore hoof like boots that were hardly seen under her dress.

    SYDNEY SWEENEY

    MIU MIU

Is this Sydney? I seriously thought this was Billie Ellish at first glance. And I’m not the only one who thought this! Wow! She looks completely different. She hasn’t dyed her gorgeous blonde hair, it is a wig that she is wearing in a new look for the ‘red carpet’.

Sydney dazzled in a powder blue Miu Miu gown with a floating tulle skirt decorated with black flower stems. She accessorised with long black latex gloves and a gorgeous diamond necklace. Her makeup was very simple with a nude lip and full lashes. She also had a light dusting of body shimmer across her chest and décolletage.

    SABRINA CARPENTER

     OSCAR DE LA RENTA

Sabrina was dressed in a floor length strapless figure hugging dress that was a black velvet bodice and included a powder blue bouffant skirt which drew inspiration from an orchid flower.

Her hair was curled at the ends with her signature fringe curled and set into place away from her face. She accessorised with a gorgeous silver double layered necklace and matching bracelet with her nails styled in her famous pointed almond shape in a light blue shade. She had several silver rings across her fingers as well. Her makeup was simple with rosy cheeks, a nude pink lip and her thick full brows.

    MISSES

    ADWOA ABOAH

    CUSTOM H&M

I’m sorry but why do fashion designers always put pregnant women in dresses that always shows their belly? Sadly, this dress does nothing to flatter Adwoa and something seriously needs changing to improve this dress.

The British model sported a red H&M skirt with a matching ruffled crop top as she confirmed she was pregnant with her first child. Her makeup was minimal with only a slight touch of red lipstick on her lower lip and a covering on her upper lip. Her hair was tied into a tight bow shaped bun with a middle parting.

    JENNIE KIM

    ALAIA

I’ve seen a lot of people raving about Jennie and I’ll be honest, I have absolutely no idea who she is. When I think about the theme for this years Met Gala, I’m not really sure what she is trying to embody with her choice of dress.

Is it water? This dress could have had some serious potential but sadly, I think this underachieved. The seriously short front to the skirt of the dress does nothing for Jennie and I think a longer and more floatier dress could have achieved the ‘water’ aspect of the design. She is gorgeous but I seriously think this dress could have had a lot more potential.

    TYLA

    BALMAIN

I’m sorry Tyla but this dress is absolutely awful. It does absolutely nothing for you and plus you can’t even move in it – what is the point? I get it is meant to embody sand but you could have done a lot better with your dress choice. The cool thing about her outfit was the sand timer she carried in her hand but sadly everything else doesn’t flatter her and the dress could have been thought out a lot better.

    LIZZO

    WEINSANTO

I’m sorry Lizzo but this dress does absolutely nothing for you. I had to laugh at the comments that described it as a ‘used coffee filter’ and now I can’t unseen it. The people making comments are not being fatphobic as she claimed, they just simply feel this dress doesn’t flatter her at all and a more stylised dress could have been designed for Lizzo to wear.

Is she trying to look like a vase? She kind of reminds me of the conch-head pirate from Pirates of the Caribbean from Davy Jones’ ship.

    RITA ORA

    MARNI

I’m sorry Rita but this look isn’t for you. You have an incredible figure but this dress nothing to flatter you. Rita’s dress was inspired by the real tapestry of human craft spanning a period of two millennia from Egypt to Roma. It was composed of one of a kind antique glass beads from all over the world, highlighting one of humankind’s most ancient crafted objects and paired together with antique handmade glass beads from Murano ranging between the 40’s all through to the 70’s.

It had a retro vibe to it with the browns, light greens and pale blues with the drapes hanging down the front and back of the dress with nothing either side. It highlighted Rita’s incredible figure but it does nothing for her if that makes sense.
