• 7 Places To Eat In Whaley Bridge

We had food in some really lovely pubs during our visit to eat in Whaley Bridge in the Peak District. I wanted to write about them in this post to help you plan your visit and find good places to eat at. These were ideal cosy and comfy places to eat at in the Peak District.

7 PLACES TO EAT IN WHALEY BRIDGE // COSY & COMFY PUBS IN THE PEAK DISTRICT

    01. The Cock Pub

We had just arrived in Whaley Bridge and were desperate to find somewhere to have dinner. Once we got our bearings, we drove down into the town and came across The Cock Pub which looked really busy so it was obviously good and got a mention in our cottages guide to the area from people who had also visited.

It was fully booked for tables so we had to wait a little while by the bar with some drinks until a table became free. Once we were seated, we sat down at a large table with benches either side in the main area of the pub which had great atmosphere. We were right next to the dog biscuits as well which Max loved. I ordered their veggie burger with fries and I was so full afterwards.

    02. The Navigation Inn

This pub was just down the road from our cottage so it was ideal if we didn’t fancy driving out too far. Sadly, I wasn’t feeling great so I didn’t order much and only ordered a portion of sweet potato fries but the food I did see being ordered looked really good. This is more of a no-nonsense pub and doesn’t look like much from the outside but it’s quite quirky once you are inside. It feels like a typical homely pub. I’m gutted I didn’t get a chance to try more of their food but it’s definitely worth a visit.

    03. The Devonshire Arms

We came across The Devonshire Arms on the off chance after one of our long walks and we were so hungry, we decided to stop for a late lunch as we were quite a drive away from the cottage. It’s a huge pub with lots of lovely cosy rooms, we sat down off of the bar area with comfy chairs and lots of quirky decor. Their menu sounded so good, it was really difficult to decide what to order. We chose to share a few starters including their Korean fried cauliflower bites. I ordered their cheese and tomato toasted sandwich for my lunch.

    04. Old Hall Inn

On our first visit to Old Hall Inn, I wasn’t feeling great so I didn’t each much and only ordered their Focaccia which was really yummy. The Old Hall Inn is a lovely pub that is twinned with the Paper Mill Inn – they are only a short walk away from each other. The Old Hall Inn isn’t very big but is very cosy and is a lovely place to go if you want a decent meal out. On our second visit, I had more of an appetite and ordered their Fish Finger Sandwich – a posh version.

Location: Whitehough, Chinley, High Peak SK23 6EJ

    05. Paper Mill Inn

We had quite a long walk around Bakewell so we were definitely hungry and wanted a big dinner. I was really craving a pizza and the Paper Mill Inn do really good home-made pizzas. It was the night of Man City v RB Leipzig in the Champions League and they had lots of screens up in the pub for people to watch it.

We sat down at a table near the pizza oven before the game kicked off. I ordered their roasted squash, spinach and feta pizza with a Diet Coke. There was a TV on the wall behind us so we were able to turn around and watch the game once it kicked off. It’s a lovely pub, with an upstairs area for comfy drinking and they also host a quiz and bingo night up there as well.

    06. The Honey Bun Cafe

This cafe is a lovely quaint place to relax in the middle of Bakewell. It’s decorated with lots of vintage and retro decor with lots of delicious home-made cakes and sandwiches on offer. We stopped here for a quick bite to eat as we were exploring Bakewell on route to a walk we had planned. I ordered their vegan sausage roll and a hot chocolate.

    Location: 1 Water St, Bakewell DE45 1EW

    07. The Old Nags Head

We walked past The Old Nags Head as we were on our way to our walk in Edale. After our long and scrambling walk over rocks, we were so hungry and desperate for something to eat. We ordered a portion of scampi and chips to share, which definitely filled a hole.

The Old Nags Head in Edale is the official start of the Pennine Way. This is a rugged walk that goes from the rocky spine of The Peak District right up into the Scottish border – it can take 19 days to walk.
