Have you ever been to a French Village themed theme park that’s on top of a massive hill? Me neither! Until I visited Ba Na Hills in Da Nang, Vietnam. I had seen so many photos of it online but never realised what it would be like.

EXPLORING BA NA HILLS // THE EUROPEAN THEMED CITY ON THE TRUONG SON MOUNTAINS

We were all keen to find out what it was like and then when we found out it was just £20 a ticket. We thought why not, you won’t get that at home. This is my guide to exploring Ba Na Hills in Da Nang.

HOW DO I GET TO BA NA HILLS?

From Da Nang city, Ba Na Hills is about an 1 hour and 30 minutes taxi ride. It isn’t too far from Da Nang International Airport. The taxi drivers should know the way. And if not, make sure you give them the address from a screenshot on your phone. Or from a leaflet.

From there, once you’ve paid for your tickets you will then walk to the cable car entrance. This shouldn’t take too long as they do seem to feed people quite quickly into their cable cars. (On the way up we had one booth to the 3 of us).

The cable car journey can take up to 25-30 minutes. But does seem to go quite quickly and you get the stunning views of the mountain scenery around you. Which kind of feels like you are in Jurassic Park.

Especially when we went up it was quite cloudy and had a very eery feel to it. The cable car system is very new and is one of the most impressive cable cars in the world. In fact it is the World’s Longest single-rope cable car system, in length it’s roughly 5,801m. And it’s also the world highest with the difference between the departure station and the arrival station being about 1,368m.

As you walk through and waiting to get to the cable car on the ceiling it’s themed like it’s Hoi An. As the entrance to the cable car is called Hoi An Station and features boats and floating tea lights on the ceiling as if it was the river. Which they are hugely popular in Hoi An.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO ENTER?

Adult tickets cost 600,000VND and children tickets cost 500,000VND if they are between 1 – 1.3 metres (3 foot). And if they are under 1 metre they go FREE. 600,000VND roughly works out at about £18 for an adult ticket. Which you would never pay for a ticket to Thorpe Park.

As you walk into the ticket purchasing area, there are quite a few tables with people sat down who are just wearing normal clothing who only take cash, however if you don’t have enough cash to cover your tickets – there is a walk through where you will see more closed off booths.

They wear more formal uniform and they accept all major Visa credit cards should you wish to pay with card to buy your ticket(s).

As you come in more toward the theme park in the cable car, you can see the castle and buildings at the top of the hill. On the left you can see they are building more for the theme park including another castle and what could be another hotel as well.

CAN YOU STAY IN BA NA HILLS?

Absolutely, there are actually hotels in the Ba Na Hills theme park in which you can actually stay overnight. There are plenty to choose from including Mercure French Village Hotel and many other of the smaller hotels are available.

WHAT CAN YOU DO IN BA NA HILLS? 

There is plenty to see and do including take lots of pictures, soak up the atmosphere, go on lots of rides that are available for both adults and children, eat lots of food that’s on sale at stalls or visit one of the many restaurants.

It feels like you are walking through a real French village with the architecture and french shops and restaurants, as well as in the centre you have a massive fountain covered in flowers and directly opposite it you have a scale to size Notre Dame cathedral which you can walk inside and explore as well as take loads of pictures of the stain glass windows and decorations inside.

THE GARDENS
If you love flowers, you’ll love the gardens that are sprawled across Ba Na Hills especially in the French garden of Le Jardin D’Armour, the Love Bridge, and the various other smaller gardens around the French Village.

THE VIEWS
You can get multiple different views from the top of Ba Na Hills, being above the clouds you can see the clouds for miles if it’s a very grey day but you can also get the lovely blue sky above you as well. And also being at the high points of the park you get views of the castles and high buildings which is a really great view.

THE FOOD
There is plenty of places to eat including restaurants and cafes in which you can buy food from and also plenty of food stalls in which you can get food and drinks from that you can bring with you as you explore the park. We tried the traditional Vietnamese doughnuts which were interesting but actually really nice.
