If you are planning a trip to Halong Bay whilst you visit Vietnam, you will want to make sure the weather is just right and visit at the best time. We visited Vietnam around January or February time and the weather is Halong Bay wasn’t the greatest. You definitely do not want bad weather affecting your enjoyment and experience of Halong Bay, especially if you are on a cruise. Here is my guide to help you know when to visit Halong Bay for the best weather.

THE BEST TIME TO VISIT HALONG BAY // A GUIDE TO CRUISE TRIPS

SO WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO GO?

The best time to visit Halong Bay is around October to December (Autumn) or March to April (Spring) are the best times to visit Halong Bay. You can also visit during peak season thanks to the pleasant weather and low chance of rain. Though you can expect double the crowds. While June to September (Summer) is the low season and has a higher chance of storms and typhoons.

June, July and August is said to be off season which means not many tourists will be around. Although you are said to get the best weather with the glowing sun. The uncrowded beaches and various cruise promotions will be another attractive reason to book your cruise around this time of year.

You may also need to take into account the weather of the rest of Vietnam. Especially if you are planning longer travelling around. We went in January or February time and the weather for the rest of Vietnam was lovely and warm but just Halong Bay was cloudy and foggy. You may want to plan doing the north of Vietnam at the same time and the south another time as the weather will be similar.

If you are going on a cruise make sure you pick a nice and reputable cruise company to enjoy your tour with. Most tour companies will all be located in the same harbour and organise pretty much the same activities onboard which can include kayaking, visiting a fish farm and pearl shop and learnt how to make spring rolls (which they were yummy), whilst also having karaoke on board to amuse the Asian passengers. We booked our cruise with Alisa Cruises and they were quite good.
