I was invited to see Nothing But Thieves #MTVLiveLockdown show as I’m a huge fan of their band! Well it’s been just about a week since I saw Nothing But Thieves at Kentish Town Forum but just yesterday I went to see them perform an intimate gig at the Excel Custom House for MTV Live Lockdown with SRO Audiences.

PERFORMING AT THE EXCEL CUSTOM HOUSE

Nothing But Thieves ran a competition to win 2 free tickets by re-tweeting a post on either their Facebook or Twitter account and they will send you tickets. So I re-tweeted the post and they sent me my tickets. It was quite a last minute thing but I managed to go with my Dad and took the day off work. We’d travelled up from Hillingdon to Excel Custom House and waited in the queue. We had to wait quite a while so they could set up and do sound checks etc but it was pretty insane once we got inside.

We were then allowed in and showed where to stand. The set up was in a hexagonal shape with two floors and the band played in the middle. There was probably about 100 people in the crowd. No matter where you stood you had a great view and could see everything. We were on the bottom floor and practically right in front of the band. I had Dom right in front of me and Conor wasn’t too far away from us either. They were literally 10 feet away. We had a host who announced parts of the show. And they filmed each part twice to make sure they had enough to edit together to make the show.

They recorded a few intros before the band came out and played 6 of their songs. Including Itch, Wake Up Call, Excuse Me, If I Get High, Trip Switch and Ban All The Music. They then took a break whilst we could relax before coming on and playing the set again. I had one of the cameramen filming me sing. So my face might appear on the television when this episode is released. (I’m not good being in front of the camera, but behind them I’m fine).

I hope I don’t look too bad and that he caught my better side ahah! After them playing the entire set again. They then filmed some more outro pieces of the crowd cheering. And the host announcing the band for the Live Lockdown battle etc. Then we were allowed to leave and we then ventured back to the tube.

    EXPLORING BOROUGH MARKET

We then caught the train to Bermondsey because Dad wanted to find some breweries near the Arches but most of them weren’t open until later so we took a walk past The Shard and also came across a hidden boxing training center under one of the bridges which was quite cool and we then ended up walking to Borough Market for lunch/early dinner.

We walked through the stalls and came to a restaurant near the church there called Whiskey Ginger and had some food. I had their chicken ciabatta burger and we shared some of their fries in a cup which was really yummy.

Feeling super stuffed from our food we walked around the stalls some more and picked up a few goodies to take home including some yummy brownies and a chocolate and caramel tart to share as well as some liquorice for my mum as she loves it. We then ventured home early to miss the rush hour traffic.

Make sure you check out this episode of MTV Live Lockdown on the MTV LIVE channel. The new series including this episode will be aired in the Spring. So keep your eyes peeled! Airing date to be confirmed!

Have you taken part in an experience like this before? What did you think of it? Make sure you also check out Nothing But Thieves, you won’t regret it!
