The Petronas Towers are one of the biggest attractions to Kuala Lumpur. And one of the main features to the cities skyline. I thought I would write up a guide to the Petronas Towers for those of you interested in checking it out on your travels in Kuala Lumpur.

HISTORY OF THE PETRONAS TOWERS

It is basically the hub of the city and were everything happens. The Towers were the tallest buildings in the world from 1998 to 2004. Until it was over taken by the Taipei 101 tower. It is still the world’s tallest twin towers though. Only a few floors of the Petronas Towers are occupied with offices with the rest of the floors completely empty. The Towers are currently 16th in the World Tallest Building Ranking.

There is a huge shopping mall underneath the Towers which is Suria KLCC. It’s the main shopping mall in the city that hosts a huge range of shops, from clothing to technology. There is also a huge pond in front of the shopping mall and towers which hosts light shows every night for people to enjoy. It’s also the perfect place for everyone to chill in the shade and admire the beauty of these towers.

HOW TO GET THERE & OTHER INFO

You can get to The Petronas Towers in lots of different ways…
– Get a Grab or Taxi if you are quite far away.
– If you are nearby I recommend walking there.

Opening Times: Petronas Towers are open daily from 9am to 9pm. Apart from Monday’s which they are completely closed (and on other holy celebrations) and on Fridays they are open from 9am to 1pm and then 2:30pm to 9pm for holy prayers. Issuing starts at 8:30am. Last admissions are 8:30pm.

For non residents:
Adults (13 – 60 years) RM80
Children (3 – 12 years) RM33
Senior Citizen (61 years & above) RM42
Infant (below 2 years old) FREE

For residents:
Adults (13 – 60 years) RM28
Children (3 – 12 years)RM14
Senior Citizen (61 years & above) RM14
Infant (below 2 years old) FREE

Tickets are limited per day, so make sure you pre book to ensure you don’t miss out when you’re there.

How Long Do I Need There? Each tour can last about 1 hour depending how busy it is, spending 15-20 minutes at each section of the tour. Including a visit to the gift shop.

Places To Eat: There are quite a few places to eat in the shopping mall which is good. If you get there early you can get some food depending on what time your tour is. You can also kill some time before your tour starts if you arrive there early by shopping in the mall.

SKY BRIDGE

Before we started the tour, we was given a safety briefing from a hologram before getting in the lift to the 41st floor for the Skybridge. Being 170 meters above ground level really was something else but it was great to see the city in a different perspective. We had about 15-20 minutes here to take in the view and snap some photos before being moved on to the next section.

86th FLOOR & OBSERVATION DECK

We then headed to the 86th floor and Observation deck of the towers, we were gifted with incredible views of the Kuala Lumpur city skyline. On this floor we were able to learn and discover how the towers were built with models and interactive screens filled with lots of information and activities for children to enjoy. You again can spend up to 15-20 minutes there taking in everything. Before heading to the Upper Gift Shop and then heading into the elevator back down to the ground floor gift shop.

SAFETY RULES AND INSTRUCTIONS

– Make sure you follow and adhere to the safety instructions at the beginning of the tour.
– You are asked to put your bags and belongings through a security scanner before the tour begins.
– You are also asked to put your bags behind in the cloakroom and only taking what you need with you, so cameras etc.
– You’re not allowed to chew any chewing gum.
